This study assessed fuel subsidy removal and transportation in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. Specifically, it examined the effect of subsidy removal on vehicle operation and transportation costs. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study involved 200 respondents selected from transport operators and transportation-dependent business operators in Biu LGA. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage and mean, were used in the analyses of the data, with a criterion mean of 3.00 for decision-making. The findings showed that fuel subsidy removal substantially increased the operating costs of commercial vehicles, particularly daily fuel expenses. The study also found that changes in PMS prices and transportation fares affected transport operations, with a grand mean of 3.87, indicating agreement among respondents. Increased transportation costs were also associated with delays in movement and other activities. The study concluded that fuel subsidy removal placed considerable cost pressures on road transport operators and transportation-dependent businesses in Biu LGA. It recommends that government strengthen targeted transport support and cost-reduction measures to reduce the burden on transport operators and transportation-dependent businesses.
