Abstract: This research was carried out to examine the impact of community development projects (CDP) on rural communities in Southern part of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study were to; determine the impact of CDP on rural development, establish the significant relationship between CDP and the wellbeing of the rural dweller and identify problems militating against CDP project in the study area. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Both primary and secondary sources of data were utilized. The population of the study was 21,000 target groups. Using the proportional systematic random sampling technique, 5% of the population (1,050) from 5 project communities were selected and 1022 respondents participated in the study. Data were collected from the respondents using structured questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, while chi-square statistic tool was employed to test the hypotheses at 95% level of significance. After data presentation and analysis, the study found out that, Community Development Projects has a significant positive impact on rural communities in the study area. It was also revealed that communal crises and delay in payment of contribution funds by individual community members for project execution were the major problems militating against community development project (CDP) executed in the Study area. Based on these outcomes, the study recommended that the CDP management in the rural areas should expand its’ community development projects to include the establishment of cottage industries and handicraft centres for training of skills in order to sustain the wealth creation mechanism. Lastly, Nasarawa State Government should bring lasting solutions to the communal crises in the study area as development can only strive in a peaceful atmosphere..

Abstract: Consumer goods manufacturing companies constitute a large part of the real sector of the Nigerian economy. Most of their inputs are subjected to volatile foreign exchange markets and ever-rising inflation, both of which are determined by monetary policy manipulation. This study examined the effect of monetary policy on the financial performance of quoted consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Focusing on the monetary policy variables such as Money Supply (MSP), Interest Rate (INTR), Exchange Rate (EXCR), and Inflation Rate (IFR), while the financial performance aspect was proxied by Return on Assets (ROA). The study used an ex-post facto research design and obtained secondary time series and cross-sectional (TSCS) panel data of the twenty-one (21) quoted consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria for the years 2014 to 2024. With the aid of E-Views 12.0, the data were subjected to multiple regression analysis using the Cross-section random Panel Least Squares (PLS) technique. The study revealed that Interest rate and Exchange Rate (EXCR) have a significant effect on the financial performance of quoted consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria while money supply and inflation rate have insignificant effects. Also, while money supply and inflation rate have a positive effect on the financial performance of quoted consumer goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria, interest rate and exchange rate have negative effects. Based on these findings, the study concluded that interest rates (INTR) and Exchange Rate (EXCR) emerge as significant and influential factors affecting the financial performance of these firms. The strong negative relationship between interest rates and Return on Assets (ROA) underscores the sensitivity of these companies to changes in borrowing costs and consumer spending patterns influenced by interest rate fluctuations. Based on the conclusions it was recommended that firms should explore financial instruments such as interest rate swaps or forward rate agreements to hedge against interest rate fluctuations if return on assets is anything to come by.

Abstract: This study investigated perceived influence of social
media use on child-rights advocacy in Ondo State. The study was guided by five
objectives. Anchored on Agenda-setting Media theory and Social Marketing theory,
the study was conducted with survey method with a population of 1,440 and a sample
of 360. Findings of the study revealed that respondents are well aware of the
child-rights advocacy in the various social media such as Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, WhatsApp which are more frequently, used than traditional channels of
communication such as radio, television, newspaper etc. The social media give
opportunities to its users to participate in discussion. The challenges of social
media on child-rights advocacy are cost of smartphones, data purchase,
maintenance, frequent power outage, internet service failure and the fact that
some website owners or bloggers do not show interest in child-rights advocacy.
Respondents opined that child-rights advocates should not limit their advocacy to
only social media. They want import duties on smartphones and their accessories
reduced and that federal government should address the problems of power failure
so that the social media users can re-power their devices. The study therefore
recommended that children at all levels should be more enlightened on the issues
of child-rights to awaken them to their rights. Parents or guardians should be
more enlightened on child-rights laws through other channels of
communication..

Abstract: Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) play a crucial role in fostering economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction worldwide. Despite contributing approximately 46.31% to Nigeria's GDP and employing over 60 million people, SMEs in the country face challenges such as technological disruptions, and shifting consumer preferences. To mitigate these challenges, adopting (Enterprise Resources Planning) ERP System has emerged as a critical strategy. This study investigated the effect of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) usage on the profitability of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Southwestern Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted. The population comprised 1,390 owners, managers, and junior staff from seven selected companies: Rom Oil Ltd, Nampak Nigeria Ltd, Premier Feeds Mills Ltd, Belloxi Ltd, Drury Industries, Comestar Company Ltd, and Sunsteel Industries Ltd. A sample of 310 respondents was selected using the Taro Yamane sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured four-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using mean scores for the research questions and ANOVA for hypothesis testing. The findings showed that ERP usage had a significant positive effect on profitability, with a p-value of 0.000. Respondents agreed that ERP systems improved profit margins, financial performance, cash flow management, and sales target achievement. However, the study also revealed implementation challenges, including high costs, inadequate staff training, technical difficulties, poor IT infrastructure, and employee resistance to change. These challenges hindered the full benefits of ERP adoption. The study concluded that while ERP systems significantly enhanced SME profitability, their successful implementation required overcoming key organizational and technical barriers. The study recommended employee training, proper budgeting for ERP-related expenses, and improved IT infrastructure supported by change management strategies..

Abstract: Proverbs are ready to use, impersonal linguistic tools
for interpersonal and social interaction. Alago Proverbs are rhetoric arsenals in
a compact and condensed form employed by the Alago people in everyday conversation
to advise, warn, criticize, incite, strategize, sue for peace, recount experiences
amongst other things. On the other hand, a critical look at paremiological and
paremiographical efforts in Nigeria reveals a neglect of proverbs from minority
cultures like the Alago. The paper therefore examines the contextual performance
of Alago proverb as rhetoric and as an indigenous discourse tool for conflict
management and resolution in the society. The data for the paper was collected
through participant -observation method which involved recoding, documenting and
translating the recoded context to English. It adopts an eclectic approach for
analysis; a combination of Mey’s Pragmatic Act theory and Functionalist theory.
The findings reveal that proverb meaning among the Alago is largely dependent on
context and participants as one proverb can have different meanings depending on
the context and participants, thus a proverb without a context is “like sesame
seed lying in wait for the early rain to sprout”. The paper therefore concludes
that Alago proverbs are situation bound utterances, useful in conflict resolution,
crisis management and in fostering harmonious co-existence.

Abstract: This study was conducted to assess the anchor
borrowers’ programme productivity among small-scale rice farmers in Kano State,
Nigeria. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 160 respondents from
whom data were collected using questionnaires. Data were analyses using frequency,
percentage, mean, Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regression and Gross margin
analysis. The majority of the respondents were between the ages of 32 and 52 years
and the mean average of 46 years. Majority were male (94%) and married (86.9%).
About 63.8% of rice farmers had formal education while 36.2% of the rice farmers
had Quranic education. The mean household size, farming experience were 8 members
and 16 years respectively. About 61.5% had farm size between 0.40-1.02 hectares
and average farm size was estimated to be 1.14 hectares. The study further show
that the total variable costs of the production was N326,520 and total revenue
realized from the farm is ₦560,000.00 with a gross margin of ₦233,480.00. The The
profit for every naira invested was ₦1.72K. The coefficient of rice seed (0.31),
fertilizer (0.12), farm size (0.41) were positive and significant at 1% level of
probability which implies that an increase in the quantity of seeds, fertilizer
and land size would lead to 31%, 12% and 41% increase in the yield respectively. A
positive gross margin with increase in return per naira invested showed that small
scale rice farming under ABP is profitable. The study recommends that there is
need for ABP Project Management Team (PMT) to digitize the ABP enrollment process
and provide adequate training to farmers on banking policies as well as procedures
to prevent untimely disbursement of input and fund.

Abstract: This study develops an Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) model for ameliorating inventory items subject to a time-dependent quadratic demand rate and partial backlogging. Amelioration, where the quality or quantity of stored items increases over time as observed in the items like poultry, fish, fruit and piggery that are incorporated into the model alongside demand patterns that accelerate quadratically. The model also allows for partial shortages, with backlogging rates dependent on customer waiting time. Using calculus-based methods, a cost function was formulated to determine the optimal cycle length that minimizes total variable costs. Numerical examples validate the model, and sensitivity analysis identifies the key parameters that influence optimal cycle length, total cost, and order quantity. The result shows that parameters like amelioration rate, cost components, and demand coefficients significantly influence the inventory decisions. This model offers a practical framework for inventory management in industries dealing with improving items and non-linear customer demand behavior.

Abstract: This study looked at how FinTech helps promote gender
equality in Nigeria’s financial sector. It focused on how financial rules and
policies support women’s access to money and banking services. Around the world,
more people now use financial services. But women in developing countries like
Nigeria still face many challenges. FinTech offers new ways to access money. It
helps women overcome barriers like cultural rules and lack of access to banks. The
study reviewed important Nigerian policies such as the National Financial
Inclusion Strategy and the National Gender Policy. It used different theories like
Diffusion of Innovation, Gender Empowerment, and Financial Intermediation. These
helped explain how FinTech can support women and help them earn and save money.
The study also pointed out some problems. These include low digital skills and
strong cultural beliefs that limit women’s use of FinTech. The findings led to
suggestions for better financial systems that include and support women. This is
important for fairness and for Nigeria’s economic growth..

Abstract: This study examined the influence of safety climate
and motivation in enhancing graduate performance in Small and Medium Enterprises
(SMEs) in Plateau State, Nigeria. Anchored on Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory of
Motivation, the study explored how safety as a hygiene factor and motivation as an
intrinsic driver jointly affect graduates' productivity. A correlational research
design was employed, with a sample of 342 graduate employees selected from 40 SMEs
across the state using Taro Yamane’s sampling formula. Data were collected through
a validated and reliable structured questionnaire and analyzed using mean scores
and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Findings revealed a moderately positive
safety climate, marked by regular safety briefings and supervisor-led enforcement,
though limited employee involvement in safety decisions was noted. Motivational
practices, while present, often resulted in high-pressure work conditions that
risked burnout. A significant positive relationship was found between safety
climate, motivation, and graduate performance, confirming that both factors are
critical for enhancing employee outcomes. The study concluded that integrating
participatory safety strategies with supportive motivational policies can
substantially improve graduate productivity in SMEs. Recommendations included
fostering inclusive safety decision-making, moderating workload pressures, and
adopting holistic approaches that link safety and motivation to optimize graduate
performance..

Abstract: This research investigated the effect of work-life
balance on employees’ performance in Parastatals under the Federal Ministry of
Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Abuja, Nigeria. The study employed
descriptive research design. Both primary and secondary sources of data were
utilized in the study. The primary data were sourced through a well-structured
questionnaire which was complimented by secondary sources. A sample size of 404
was derived from a population of 2900 top, middle and lower level managers of five
selected agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and
Digital Economy (FMoCIDE) in Abuja. The study used descriptive statistics such as
frequency distribution to analyze the data. The data was analyzed and tabulated
with the help of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 23).
Regression and a multiple regression analysis to determine the relationship
between work life balance and Employees’ performance were conducted. Findings
revealed a positive correlation between work-life balance and employee
performance. The study equally established that there exists a positive
correlation between employee performance and flexible work policies. Based on the
strength of the findings, the study therefore recommended that it would be prudent
for employers to enhance leave policies and flexible work policies provided it
won’t compromise their performance. Likewise, more welfare services such as a
professional counselor, recreational facilities, and childcare services are
encouraged to be made available for all employees to help in reducing the work
related stress.

Abstract: This study examines effect of contributory pension
scheme on pension payment to retirees of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi,
Benue State, Nigeria. The research specifically evaluated the Act's impact on
payment timeliness and identified administrative challenges contributing to
disbursement delays. The study employed a descriptive survey design, utilizing a
census sampling technique to gather data from ninety-seven retirees and six
pension staff through structured questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using
mean and standard deviation. The findings revealed that while retirees’ perceived
improvements in payment timeliness since the Act's implementation, significant
dissatisfaction remained regarding the overall payment experience. The study also
found that inadequate communication from pension administrators emerged as a major
contributor to delays, along with the complexity of the pension claim process.
While insufficient staffing and resources were acknowledged as challenges,
opinions on their impact were more divided, and bureaucratic inefficiencies were
not perceived as the most significant factor affecting payment delays. The study
concluded that despite some positive changes introduced by the Pension Reform Act
(2014), substantial challenges persist in ensuring timely pension payments. Based
on these findings, the study recommended enhancing communication strategies within
pension administration and streamlining the claims process to improve efficiency
in pension disbursements to retirees in the institution.

Abstract: This study discussed on the Freedom of Information
(FOI) Act was passed in 2011, anticipating a remarkable milestone in transparency,
accountability and democratic governance in Nigeria. However, legal enactment does
not necessarily guarantee the effective enforcement of the law, thus the
implementation of the FOI has been beset with a myriad of challenges. The Public
Sphere Theory propounded by Jürgen Habermas in 1962 was used as theoretical
framework. This study analyzes key factors hindering the successful implementation
of the FOI Act in Nigeria which include institutional apathy, nonchalance and lack
of adequate enforcement, as well as devoid of technological means. This
investigation, along with checking literature and other jurisdictions, convinces
us that persistent cultural, legal and infrastructural constraints restrict the
fulfillment of the democratic intents of the FOI Act. The study also investigates
the impact of advocacy and suggested further public education campaigns,
comprehensive institutional restructuring and an autonomous monitoring agency for
the proactive civil society needed alarming oversight gap. The gaps exposed in
this investigation urge reform suggesting loose legal frameworks, technology gaps
and action gaps alongside constitution and governance principles engineering
direct legislative-driven impact on states to free information access barriers
sought by citizens to achieve..

Abstract: This study explored how employee welfare and
psychological wellbeing affect human development among academic staff in state
universities in North East Nigeria. It was based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
theory. The study had two objectives: (1) to examine the link between employee
welfare and psychological wellbeing, and (2) to assess how psychological wellbeing
influences staff development. A correlational research design was used. The
population of the study consisted of 2,600 academic staff from six state-owned
universities. The sample of the study was 780 respondents which made up 30% of the
total number of academic staff population. A stratified random sampling technique
was used to select the sample of the study. Data were collected through structured
questionnaires. A total of 780 academic staff were selected using stratified
random sampling from six out of seven state-owned universities. This number made
up 30% of the total academic staff population of 2,600.Data were analyzed using
descriptive and inferential statistics. The mean score and standard deviation were
used to answer the research questions while the Pearson Product Correlation
Movement (PPMC) was used to test the hypotheses. Results showed a strong positive
relationship between employee welfare and psychological wellbeing. They also
showed a positive link between psychological wellbeing and human development. The
study concluded that better welfare and mental health support improve staff
satisfaction, emotional balance, and work performance. It recommended that
universities provide better welfare packages and mental health services, like
counseling and stress management.

Abstract: This study investigated the extent and nature of press
coverage of rural development news in Nigeria, using Nigerian Compass and The Hope
newspapers as case studies. It was anchored on the Development Media Theory,
Social Responsibility Theory and the framework of Development Journalism. A total
of 48 editions—24 from each newspaper—were sampled using a simple random sampling
technique. Two editions per month over a one-year period from May 2011 to April
2012 were selected. Data were presented using tables to highlight frequencies and
trends in coverage. Out of the 730 editions published during the period under
review, the selected sample provided insight into the consistency, prominence, and
thematic focus of rural development news. Findings indicated that the two selected
newspapers did not give much prominence to the coverage of rural development news;
rather, they preferred world and city news. Again, The Hope newspaper reported and
published more stories on rural communities than the Nigerian Compass during the
period under review. It was also revealed that news on rural development was
mostly reported in straight news format, as commonly practiced by the Nigerian
Compass, while fewer reports were published as features, opinion/comment,
letters-to-the-editor, photographs, and cartoons. There was no report in the
editorial format. This was due to the fact that the Nigerian Compass wrote
editorials on national issues and foreign matters, rather than on rural and
community issues. It was recommended that the imbalance in the flow of
communication between rural communities and urban areas could be bridged if the
government, donor agencies, and development organizations decentralized the
practice of journalism by establishing rural/community newspapers..

Abstract: This study examined the effectiveness of public health
interventions in controlling and preventing infectious diseases and assessed the
challenges affecting their implementation in rural communities of Taraba State. A
descriptive survey research design was adopted, targeting healthcare workers,
community health volunteers, and residents across selected communities in Wukari,
Gassol, and Jalingo Local Government Areas. A total of 400 respondents were
selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data were collected using a
validated and reliable structured questionnaire, and analyzed using descriptive
and inferential statistics, including chi-square and regression analysis at a 0.05
level of significance. Findings revealed that public health interventions have
significantly reduced the prevalence of infectious diseases such as malaria and
cholera, with high effectiveness noted in vaccination programs, clean water
provision, and improved healthcare access. However, community participation and
health education efforts were less effective, indicating gaps in public
engagement. The study also found that implementation challenges such as inadequate
funding, poor infrastructure, weak policy enforcement, and shortage of healthcare
personnel significantly hindered disease prevention efforts. Regression analysis
showed a strong and significant influence of public health interventions on
disease control, while chi-square results indicated a significant relationship
between implementation challenges and disease prevention outcomes. The study
concludes that addressing these challenges is critical for improving health
outcomes. It recommends increased government funding, improved infrastructure, and
enhanced community engagement to strengthen public health interventions in rural
areas.
Keywords: Public health interventions, infectious diseases, rural

Abstract: This paper investigated organizational culture as a
determinant of teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Benue
State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study, while two hypotheses were
formulated and tested. The study adopted Edgar Schein’s organizational culture
model (1971) and Victor Vroom’s expectancy theory (1964). The study adopted
Correlational research design. The population comprised 2,472 teachers in 319
public secondary schools with a sample size 247 teachers. The sample was selected
using multistage sampling procedure. Organizational Culture Questionnaire (OCQ)
and Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (TJPQ) were used for data collection.
The questionnaires were structured on 4-point rating of Strongly Agree (SA)=4,
Agree (A)=3, Disagree (D)=2 and Strongly Disagree (SD)=1. It was validated by
three experts in Faculty of Education, Benue State University, Makurdi. Cronbach
Alpha statistic was used to determine the reliability of the instrument using 40
teachers. The result yielded co-efficient value of 0.84. Pearson’s Product Moment
Correlation Coefficient was used to answer the research questions and test the
hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study showed that
there was a strong significant positive correlation of teamwork and equitable
reward system with teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools. The
study concluded that there was a strong positive significant correlation of
organizational culture with teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools
in Benue State, Nigeria. It was recommended that principals should ensure that
there is improved teamwork among teachers and they should also ensure equitable
reward system is maintained in public secondary schools. This could help in
improving teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools.
